SAP Calculations

SAP2012 (also 2005 & 2009) is the Government's Standard Assessment Procedure for Energy Rating of Dwellings. SAP is adopted by government as part of the UK national methodology for calculation of the energy performance of dwellings. It is used to demonstrate compliance with building regulations for dwellings - Part L (England and Wales), Section 6 (Scotland) and Part F (Northern Ireland) - and to provide energy ratings for dwellings. Part L of the building regulations require that a building's design specification must meet certain criteria. To show Building Regulation compliance, the CO2 emissions figure must be calculated according to this approved method.
The method involves calculating a Target Emission Rate (TER) for a notional building (a building built to minimum current standards) of the same dimensions and comparing it to the actual Dwelling Emission Rate (DER). The calculated DER must be less than or equal to the TER. In addition, by calculating the DER an estimate of the hot water and heating cost is also produced.
SAP2012 introduced in April 2014 is an updated version of SAP and must be used for calculations for all new applications received after 6 April 2014.

Using your scale plans and specification we will -

Take full quantities from you plans and building specification, calculate u-values and evaluate the heating system.

Process this information to produce SAP and Carbon Index ratings, Target and Elemental u-value calculations.

Offer professional advice and guidance in altering the specification to gain compliance.

Provide a PEA (Predicted Energy Assessment) for marketing. It is mandatory that all new build properties must display their PEA SAP rating prior to sale.

Where necessary liaise on your behalf with Building Control.
